Outreach That Doesn’t Sound Like AI

A free guide by Kamran ImamInstagram · TikTok · YouTube

Here’s the paradox: AI made sending 1,000 cold messages trivial, which made 1,000 cold messages worthless. Inboxes are drowning in “I noticed you’re doing great things at [Company]” slop. The winning move flipped: fewer messages, researched — with AI doing the research legwork instead of the mass-blasting.

The method — research first, write second

Step 1 — the account brief (per target, 3 minutes).

I'm considering reaching out to [person, role, company]. From what I give you, build a mini-brief: what their company does, what's changed for them recently [paste their post / news / site copy], what their role probably makes them care about, and the honest angle where what I offer ([your offer]) connects to something real for THEM. If the connection is a stretch, say so — I'd rather skip than force it.

That last line does real work: AI’s eagerness to find connections is where cringe outreach comes from. Give it permission to say “skip this one.”

Step 2 — the three-sentence message

Write the outreach message from that brief. Structure: (1) the specific observation — a real detail proving I looked, no flattery; (2) the bridge — the ONE way I'm relevant to that detail, framed as their gain; (3) the small ask — a question they can answer in one line, NOT 'a quick 15-minute call.' My voice: [descriptors]. Under 70 words. Banned: 'I hope this finds you well', 'I noticed', 'quick question', 'synergy', any compliment about being a 'thought leader.'

Why the small ask wins: “Would Tuesday or Thursday work for a call?” from a stranger is a big ask. “Are you handling [X] in-house or outsourcing it?” is answerable from a phone in a checkout line — and a reply, any reply, changes everything about message two.

Step 3 — the follow-up ladder (where most replies actually live)

The scale rule

AI makes the research fast (10 quality briefs/hour), not the sending. The moment you catch yourself asking AI to “write 200 personalized messages,” you’ve rejoined the slop army — and reply rates will tell you so within a week. Twenty researched messages beat two hundred sprayed ones on replies, not just reply rate.
