Never Hit Your Limits Again
A free guide by Kamran Imam — Instagram · TikTok · YouTube
Hitting your AI usage limit mid-task is infuriating — and mostly avoidable. Limits are usually about how much the AI has to re-read, not how much you chat. Every message in a long chat re-processes everything above it. That’s the whole secret. Four habits follow from it:
1. One chat per task
The 400-message mega-chat is the single biggest limit-burner. Each new message makes the AI re-read the entire history. New task, new chat — every time. The change alone typically doubles how far a plan stretches.
2. Front-load context instead of drip-feeding it
Twenty clarifying back-and-forths cost far more than one loaded first message. Give the context, the goal, and the constraints in message one (/r/brief is the template), and you’ll finish in 3 messages what used to take 15.
3. Move repeated work into Projects
If you paste the same background into chats over and over, put it in a Project once. Files attached to a Project are handled more efficiently than the same text re-pasted forever — and you’ll stop forgetting to include things.
4. Know your reset window
Plans reset on a rolling window (often ~5 hours for message-based limits). Learn yours and shape your day around it: do the heavy synthesis session in the morning, the light Q&A in the afternoon — not one giant everything-session that slams the ceiling at 2 pm.
Bonus habits for heavy users
- Summarize and restart. Long chat getting slow? “Summarize this conversation as a handoff brief for a new chat.” Paste that into a fresh chat and continue. You keep the knowledge, drop the baggage.
- Match the model to the job. Quick factual stuff doesn’t need the flagship model. Save the heavyweight for the work that needs it.
- Trim your pastes. Don’t paste a 40-page doc for a question about page 3. Paste page 3.
The mindset shift
Treat context like luggage. Pack once, pack tight, and don’t drag your entire history through every conversation.
