Money Scenarios with AI
A free guide by Kamran Imam — Instagram · TikTok · YouTube
I have an MBA in finance, and here’s the honest truth: most personal finance questions don’t need an advisor — they need arithmetic you were never shown how to set up. AI is excellent at setting up that arithmetic. (What it is NOT: a licensed financial advisor. Use it to understand your options, then make your own call — and for big irreversible moves, have a professional check your logic.)
The setup prompt (paste once per money chat)
You're helping me think through a financial decision. Rules: show every formula and assumption as a line I can edit, give ranges not false precision, tell me what you'd need to know to be more confident, and never tell me what to do — show me what each option costs and I'll decide. The scenarios
1. The three-futures frame (works for any big decision)
Decision: [describe]. Build three scenarios — cautious, expected, optimistic. For each: the assumptions, the 12-month cash impact, the 5-year picture, and the early sign that I'm in that scenario. Then tell me which assumption matters most.2. Rent vs buy, honestly
Rent: [amount]. Buying: [price, down payment, rate, taxes, fees]. Compare 5-year total costs including the ones people forget: maintenance (~1%/yr), transaction costs both ways, and what the down payment would earn if invested instead. Show the break-even year and which inputs move it most.3. The job offer comparator
Offer A: [salary, bonus, equity, benefits, commute, growth]. Offer B: [same]. Current job: [same]. Build a total-compensation table with realistic values (equity at 50% haircut for private companies), then add the non-money rows I told you I care about, weighted. Show the true annual gap.4. The big-purchase cooling-off
I want to buy [thing, price]. Play it back to me: cost per use over its realistic life, what percentage of a month's income it is, what else that money does in 5 years if invested at 7%, and the version of this purchase at half price. Then ask me the 3 questions that reveal whether this is a want or a need. Don't lecture — just make me look at it.5. The runway calculator (freelancers and founders)
Income is irregular: here are my last 6 months of income and expenses: [paste]. Compute: my true monthly burn, my worst-3-month average income, the emergency fund that covers the gap for 6 months, and how much I can actually pay myself monthly without sweating.6. The debt sequencer
Debts: [list with balances, rates, minimums]. Show avalanche (highest rate first) vs snowball (smallest balance first): total interest and payoff date for each, and the honest psychology trade-off. Build me the monthly payment plan for the one I pick. The rule that makes all of this work
Garbage in, garbage out. Spend 10 minutes exporting your real numbers (/r/audit shows the safe way) — real inputs turn these from horoscopes into instruments.
