How to replace Siri on your iPhone (iOS 27)
A free guide by Kamran Imam — Instagram · TikTok · YouTube
Apple finally let you fire Siri. With iOS 27 you can swap Siri’s brain for a real AI — ChatGPT works today, and Claude is landing soon. Here’s exactly where to switch it.
What changed
At WWDC 2026, iOS 27 introduced AI Extensions. For the first time you can set a third-party model — ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini — as your default assistant at the OS level across Apple Intelligence, instead of being stuck with Siri.
That means the side-button press, “Hey Siri,” and eligible system requests all route to whichever AI you pick. One setting, the whole system follows.
Where to find it
Open Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Extensions.
That’s the menu. It’s not buried — Extensions is a top-level item inside Apple Intelligence & Siri, not hidden under a sub-menu.
What’s live right now
In the current iOS 27 beta, ChatGPT is the only provider that shows up in the list. It was Apple’s original Apple Intelligence partner, so its integration shipped first. Select it and “Hey Siri” plus eligible system requests route to ChatGPT instead of Apple’s Siri.
If you want to try the new default-AI feature today, ChatGPT is your option.
When Claude arrives
Claude and Gemini are confirmed but not populated in the beta yet. Anthropic needs to ship its Extensions integration first, and current reporting points to around the iOS 27 public launch in September — or shortly after.
When it lands, Claude simply appears as another option in the same Extensions menu. Nothing to re-set-up; you just switch providers.
Don’t see Claude? You’re not missing a setting
If you’re on the beta and only see ChatGPT in the list, that’s expected — Claude isn’t switchable for anyone yet. Keep your Claude app updated and check back after the September release.
Try it now (with ChatGPT)
Once you’ve switched, these are the first prompts worth testing — the things Siri consistently failed at:
Draft a reply to this text the way I'd actually say it.
Summarize the last email from [name] and tell me if I need to act on it.
Plan my afternoon around these 3 things I still need to do today.
