Everyone asks “which AI is best?” Wrong question — they leapfrog each other every few months, and reviewers don’t do your job. The right question: which is best at YOUR work, this month? That’s testable in 10 minutes, free.
The method: same tests, all three, your real work
Open the free tier of each. Paste identical prompts drawn from things you actually did this week. Score each 1-5. Highest total gets your $20.
The five tests
Test 1 — your real writing. Take an email or doc you actually wrote recently. “Rewrite this in my voice — [3 adjectives] — half the length.” Score: which version would you actually send without editing?
Test 2 — your real thinking. A decision you’re currently facing, with context. “Interview me one question at a time, then give me a recommendation with the condition that would flip it.” Score: which asked the smartest questions? (Question quality is the clearest capability signal.)
Test 3 — your real documents. The longest, messiest file you work with — a contract, a report, a data export. “What are the 3 things in here I’d care about most, and what’s odd or missing?” Score: catches, not summaries. Anyone can summarize; finding the odd thing is the skill.
Test 4 — your real expertise. Ask about the thing YOU know best — the topic where you can spot nonsense instantly. Score: honesty. Which one said “I’m not sure” instead of confidently making something up? Weight this heavily — it predicts how much you can trust everything else.
Test 5 — your real repetition. Whatever you do weekly (report, plan, content draft), run your actual prompt for it. Score: closest to done.
What generally differentiates them
(Verify against your tests, not my word): Claude tends to win on writing quality, long documents, and careful reasoning; ChatGPT on breadth of built-in features and integrations; Gemini on Google-ecosystem work and things tied to search. But your five tests trump every general claim — including mine.
The re-test rule
Mark a calendar date 6 months out and re-run the same five tests. Switching costs are near zero, the leaderboard genuinely moves, and loyalty to an AI subscription is a strange thing to have anyway.
