The Caption System
A free guide by Kamran Imam — Instagram · TikTok · YouTube
Here’s what studying top creators’ captions taught me: the caption isn’t a description of the video — it’s a second distribution surface with its own job. The winners all converged on the same four-block structure:
Block 1 — the CTA, restated, line one
Whatever you asked for in the video, the caption’s first line repeats it: comment “WORD” and I’ll send you [the thing]. Line one is what shows before “...more” — it’s the only line most people see, so it carries the action, not the vibes.
Block 2 — the value, in text
The video’s list, written out: numbered one-liners for each point, sometimes with a detail the video didn’t include (rewards the readers). Counterintuitive finding: the biggest accounts give away the whole list in the caption — because a reader who got value follows, and the DM asset is the expanded version anyway. The caption gives the sample; the DM gives the product.
Block 3 — the SEO questions
2-3 lines phrased exactly like searches: “How do I [x]?” “Why does [y] happen?” These aren’t for humans — they’re for search and recommendation systems that read captions. Instagram and TikTok search have become real discovery engines; this block is how videos keep getting found weeks later.
Block 4 — hashtags: about 5, all niche
The winning pattern is a small, consistent set: 3-4 evergreen niche tags (#aitools, #[yourniche]tips) plus 1-2 topical ones per post. What I did NOT find on any winner: 30-tag walls, #fyp #viral #trending spam. Small and specific beats broad and desperate.
A worked example (structure, not to copy verbatim)
comment "PROMPTS" and I'll send you all five, written out
The 5 prompts that run my week:
1. [Name] — [what it does in 6 words]
2. [Name] — [what it does]
... (3-5)
Save this for Monday morning.

Write the caption when you write the script, not at upload time. Upload-moment captions are visibly phoned in — and this system takes four minutes when the script is fresh.
