Position Yourself with AI

A free guide by Kamran ImamInstagram · TikTok · YouTube

“Personal brand” gets treated like a logo problem. It’s actually a positioning problem: what do you want to be the obvious person for, in whose mind? That’s strategy work, and AI is a genuinely good strategy partner for it. The workbook:

Session 1 — extract the raw material (30 min)

Interview me one question at a time to build my positioning inventory: what I know deeply (earned knowledge, not interests), what people already ask my help with, what I can prove (results, artifacts, numbers), what I could talk about for a year without burning out, and what I want to be asked to do MORE of. Push past my first answers — they'll be modest and vague.

The “what do people already ask you” question is the sleeper: your market has been telling you your positioning for years.

Session 2 — find the intersection (30 min)

From my inventory: generate 5 candidate positionings, each as: WHO I serve + WHAT specific problem + WHY me (the unfair advantage from my inventory) + the CONTENT LANE it implies. Score each: how crowded is the space, how well can I prove it today, how much would I enjoy it in year two. Recommend one, and name what I'd be giving up by choosing it.

That last clause matters — positioning is choosing what NOT to be. A positioning with no sacrifice is a horoscope.

Session 3 — write the line (15 min)

Turn the chosen positioning into: (1) the one-liner — 'I help [who] [outcome] without [pain]' or sharper; (2) my bio versions; (3) the 5 content pillars it implies, each with 3 example topics; (4) the 'obvious person' test: what would someone need to see from me for 90 days to conclude I'm the obvious person for this?

The 90-day proof loop

Positioning isn’t declared, it’s demonstrated: pick the pillars, publish on them consistently (/r/calendar), and watch one signal above all — what people start asking you. When inbound questions shift toward your chosen lane, it’s working. Quarterly:

Here's what people asked me this quarter: [list]. Is my positioning landing, drifting, or being pulled somewhere more valuable than I planned? Should I follow the pull or correct course?

Sometimes the market pulls you somewhere better than your plan. The audience vote counts double.

The honesty check that saves you a year

Before committing, run /r/truth on your chosen positioning — “what’s the gap between how I want to be seen and what I can currently prove?” The gap isn’t disqualifying; pretending it isn’t there is. Position for the proof you have, create toward the proof you want.
